PUPILS in four local schools will be taught in better classrooms thanks to new funding from the government, says MP David Burton-Sampson.

Sutton House Academy, Victory Park Academy, St Bernard’s High School and West Leigh Junior School are to benefit from essential maintenance fixes rolled out by the Government. Classrooms and school buildings are being upgraded to be safe and warm as part of the £470 million worth of government funding allotted for improving school facilities.

Mr Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West & Leigh, said:” This will give children the best possible start in life and I am delighted that these schools have been awarded funding to improve their school estates.

“I am sure it will be very welcome after long years of neglect. We want to restore pride in our school buildings and fix the dire state of repair they find themselves in.

“It simply isn’t good enough that children have been sitting in crumbling, cold classrooms and we recognise that. It’s the least that our children deserve. We want to invest in their future.”

The upgrades should take place this financial year and a further £1.4 billion is outlined for the country’s Schools Rebuilding Programme overall.
