A NEW community boxing club has opened in Rayleigh.
In early January, Rayleigh Community Boxing Club made it its new home in the town’s refurbished , Castle Hall.
A range of activities and clubs will be available at the hall, including England Boxing classes, ladies only boxing classes, and non-competing recreational classes for a range of age groups.
Coun Vilma Wilson, Lead Member for Public Spaces and Assets of Rochford District Council’s (RDC) Joint Administration said: “It is great to see the hall refurbished and ready to reopen.
“The Club will appeal to both those who are looking to get serious about boxing and have hopes to compete, or for those who are just looking for a new hobby and want a bit of fun whilst keeping active. I wish Rayleigh Community Boxing Club well in their new home.”
Tony Rowe from Rayleigh Community Boxing Club added: “It’s such a pleasure to be able to bring ABA boxing back to Rayleigh.
“Rayleigh Mill boxing club was first established in Rayleigh in the old granary building next to the windmill and was established in 1972, the club produced many champions and pro boxers in its time.
“But it’s so good to be able to provide a safe space for our youth to come and experience a club atmosphere.”
