COUN Carole Mulroney, City Councillor for Leigh Ward and Chair of the Trustees of the Leigh Heritage Centre is asking Old Town community stakeholders to come together to support the continued success and vitality of Leigh Old Town.
A statement issued by Coun Mulroney said: “Leigh Old Town is a unique and much-loved destination, valued for its rich heritage, distinctive character and welcoming atmosphere. As a historic conservation area and popular visitor location, it plays an important role in the cultural and economic life of the community.
“The area is currently supported by a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), but over recent months there have been a number of instances of large gatherings in the Old Town causing disturbance, damage and apprehension to residents and businesses.
“With future investment linked to the port and recognising the value of strong community partnerships, Carole is seeking to revive the Old Town Community Group as a local-led community forum, to provide a constructive platform for sharing ideas, discussing local matters and work collaboratively with relevant authorities to support the Old Town’s continued success.
“Carole has written to all residents, businesses and operators in the Old Town to gain their support and hopes to be holding the first meeting of the Group very shortly.
“This initiative reflects a shared commitment to preserving and enhancing Leigh Old Town, ensuring it continues to be a place where people choose to visit, live and do business.”
Coun Mulroney added: “Leigh Old Town is a special place that we all care deeply about. By working together, we can continue to build on its strengths, support one another and ensure it remains a vibrant, welcoming, safe and thriving destination for all.”
