D-Day 80th Commemoration - ROCHFORD District Council is set to participate in a historic national event commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

ROCHFORD District Council is set to participate in a historic national event commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

On Thursday 6 June, Rochford District Council will mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied Forces’ monumental amphibious invasion in 1944.

Communities across the UK and France will come together to honour this significant occasion with the lighting of thousands of beacons.

Chairman Councillor Sarah-Jane Page will lead the commemoration starting at 8:30pm in Bellingham Lane, Rayleigh and ending in a beacon lighting ceremony at 9:15pm.

This event will honour the enduring spirit of peace that emerged from the darkness of that historic day.

Coun Page said: “As we light our beacon, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who participated in the D-Day landings and the ensuing battles.

“This commemoration is a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity that defined that pivotal moment in history.

“We invite everyone to join us in paying tribute to the heroes of Normandy and reflecting on the enduring peace they helped to secure.”
