DEMENTIA care dedication shortlisted for three awards.

Recognising their dedication to giving the best service for patients with dementia, staff at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust are now in the running for three national awards.

The Learning Disability, Autism and Dementia team, who work across Basildon, Southend and Broomfield hospitals, have been shortlisted for three Dementia Care Awards.

The team have reached the finals of the Dementia Care Awards in the categories of Dementia Change Agent, Dementia Care Innovator and Admiral Nurse Award, recognising them for the training they give staff so that they are better equipped to support patients with dementia.

Jane Gilby, Admiral Nurse, is a finalist in the Admiral Nurse Award category for the outstanding effort she puts in to supporting patients and her continued commitment to raising awareness and developing the service.

She said: “I feel honoured and privileged to be nominated, it humbles me. I love my role, helping and supporting patients is enough of a reward.”

Of her team, Claire Turner, Learning Disability, Autism and Dementia Lead, said: “Dementia is a deteriorating condition, which can be challenging and upsetting for loved ones, so it’s vital that they get the right help at the right time.

“Being shortlisted for these awards shows the hard work and dedication my team put into prioritising the needs of our patients with dementia and their families. I am so proud of them.”

Winners of the Dementia Care Awards will be announced in June.
