Essex’s Best Squadron - A RAYLEIGH air cadet squadron has been named the best RAF Air Cadet group in Essex at the Annual Essex Wing Awards evening.

A RAYLEIGH air cadet squadron has been named the best RAF Air Cadet group in Essex at the Annual Essex Wing Awards evening.

The 1476 Rayleigh squadron, which consists of 48 cadets aged 12 to 19, is led by Squadron Leader Barnes.

The achievements from over the last year were celebrated with awards for squadrons, staff, and cadets.

Squadron Adjutant, Sgt S Baldwin, was awarded the Commandant’s Commendation for Meritorious Service for his efforts in progressing STEM across the Wing, and helping the squadron achieve the first Gold CREST Award in the Air Training Corps.

The squadron also came second in the Aircraft Recognition Competition.

A spokesperson for the squadron said: “Rayleigh squadron stole the show, winning the Lee/Morris Trophy Award for the best squadron in Essex!

“This means we are now in the running for the best Squadron in our Region! We are extremely proud of our squadron and our cadets, and are excited to see what happens at the next stage; we endeavour to succeed!”
