A LEIGH climber has become the second British national to complete the ‘Everest Triple Crown’.
Experienced climber Jay Whiting, 34, completed the challenge this May, making him the youngest man in the UK to complete the historic climb.
Alongside him, Sherpa climber Dawa Tenji became the only climber to achieve the historic feat for the third time.
Their ultimate three-peak challenge involved scaling Everest (8,848.86m), Nuptse (7,861m) and Lhotse (8,516m).
The pair reached Mt Everest summit at 10:50am on May 23, having begun their historic journey by climbing Nuptse on May 12, before scaling Lhotse on May 20, both achieving a rare and demanding mountaineering feat within a single season.
Mr Whiting, a lawyer, has combined his professional and family life with a busy training schedule to achieve this momentous result.
The former-pupil of Southend High School for Boys said: “This challenge is the culmination of two years of intense training.
“I’ve spent six days a week in the gym, building the physical strength, endurance, and mental resilience needed to take on these mountains.”
This journey, which Mr Whiting named Project:3, was not only about pushing his limits to achieve something extraordinary but was also about creating a lasting impact by supporting LandAid, the property industry’s charity dedicated to ending youth homelessness in the UK.
He explained: “Every year, thousands of young people face the devastating reality of homelessness. LandAid works tirelessly to provide safe, affordable housing and life-changing support for those who need it most.
“The determination and resilience required to overcome this expedition’s challenges mirror the struggles many young people face in rebuilding their lives. By supporting LandAid, this project connects with the property industry’s shared commitment to creating safe and sustainable spaces for everyone.”
At the time of writing, Mr Whiting’s efforts have raised an incredible £8,740.
His mother Jane Whiting commented: “I am not just as a proud parent, but someone deeply inspired by the strength, determination, and courage of my son.”
She added: “Jay’s achievement isn’t just about climbing mountains—it’s about pushing the limits of what’s possible, inspiring others, and showing that with determination and heart, no dream is too far-fetched.”
