BLADE Education has announced that the Making Care Fair Campaign Team has been given an award by the Essex High Sheriff for recognition of great and valuable services to the community.

This award also recognises that Making Care Fair has been praised for their activity and contribution in enhancing the life of the Essex County community.

Making Care Fair is a campaign that helps adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism (LDA) to explain for themselves what everyone else could do to help them live safer and more fulfilling lives in South East Essex. Funded by the Essex Community Foundation and the Essex Community Safety Development Fund this campaign seeks to make sure that these adults get the best opportunities from our community.

For anyone who isn’t sure, the NHS explains that “A learning disability affects the way a person learns new things throughout their life.” What’s complicated about it is that a learning disability is unique to each person.

“No two people are the same.

“However, an adult with a learning disability who has capacity to live independently will probably have some difficulty with understanding complicated information, learning some skills and navigating the world safely.

“Making Care Fair has also been working on the Help Us Be Safe Project (HUBS) has been funded to work with those people with learning disability who have the capacity to access the world alone without a carer to find out what else is needed to keep them safe and make them more confident of the world around them.

“The first part of the project has been about listening and learning from the experts in this field, adults with learning disabilities and autism in SE Essex.”

A report has been published on their experiences and hopes for the future that can be found here: https://www.makingcarefair.org/hubs.
