A FATHER who completed a 1000-mile walk in honour of his late wife concluded his pilgrimage with a poignant arrival at Roots Hall stadium in Southend.
Carl Lansley is the founder of The Carli Lansley Foundation, who set up the charity with his children Jess and Ethan in memory of Carli Lansley, their beloved wife and mother.
Mrs Lansley died aged 36 in her sleep from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.
Mr Lansley set off on his poignant pilgrimage two months ago, to scatter the ashes of his wife in memorable places.
The walk took hm through Essex, London, Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, and ended at Southend Untied stadium on Wednesday July 27.
Family members gave Mr Lansley a heroes welcome at the stadium, to commemorate the achievement and pay tribute to Mrs Lansley.
Mr Lansley said: “On Wednesday, the last leg of the 1000-mile walk saw Carli’s family visit her headstone in Sutton Road Cemetery to lay flowers and then pass St Mary’s Church, where we were married on 24 July 2004 and where more of her ashes were spread.
“A hugely emotional, tearful (but fitting) finale to the journey honouring Carli.
“And a big ‘Thank You’ to Graham Whitby Boot (official photographer at Southend United) who took time out of his schedule to be there on the day to support me and the family.”
The walk raised £15,000 for the foundation, which hosts heart screening days across South Essex as well as CPR and defibrillator training sessions.
