Female Voices Festival

A MASSED gathering of local women’s choirs will present a “Festival of Female Voices” this March in Southchurch, in aid of charity.

An eclectic mix of songs from local choirs St Bernard’s Chamber, Southend Vox Chamber, The Swift Singers, Alumnae and The Orpheus Singers will be taking performed on Saturday 29th March at 7.30 pm, to raise money for Endometriosis UK.

Fundraising has always been a cornerstone of The Orpheus Singers, founded in 2008 in Hadleigh.

They perform regularly in concerts and in 2024 the were delighted to receive Anna Firth’s ‘Community Champions Award’ in recognition of their charity fundraising.

St Bernard’s Chamber Choir is the senior choir at St. Bernard’s High School, and this year won the Charles Waller Shield at Southend Music Festival, achieving a distinction for their performance.

Alumnae, St Bernard’s Old School Girls’ choir, was the brainchild of Hilary Pell who was, for 30 years, the school’s singing teacher and Director.

Within weeks of forming in 2019, they had won numerous Festival prizes at the Southend Music Festival.

Southend Vox Chamber is a female, auditioned choir and sister choir to Southend Vox, who have won awards at the Leigh Music Festival and the Southend Festival for Performing Arts between 2018 and 2024.

The Swift Singers are a fun-loving, ladies community choir, formed in South Woodham way back in 1989.

On the night, the choirs will each be performing a selection from their own repertoire, plus a grand finale of 150 plus voices.
