THE news that loud fireworks face a ban from all but large public displays is very welcome says MP David Burton-Sampson, who has been campaigning for the change.
Labour Government are launching the biggest review into fireworks since legislation was introduced, after growing concern from residents and particularly pet owners.
The MP for Southend West and Leigh said:” As a dog owner, I share my constituents’ view that we need legislation to make fireworks safer and more controlled, not just for the sake of the animals, but for people too.
“I have met with the fireworks impact coalition, who are also campaigning for the legislation to be reviewed.”
There will now be a 12-week consultation looking into restricting the availability of noisy fireworks, tightening legislation around banning particular products and into reviewing the framework around lower risk fireworks.
Mr Burton-Sampson said: “This is long overdue. We know changes need to be made. I have heard from residents sharing their concerns about anti-social fireworks use.
“The noise of pyrotechnics can plague us for weeks in the run up to Bonfire Night, as well as irresponsible users posing problems and even possible dangers.
“We all love fireworks but there are growing numbers of people who would like to see these changes, so now is the time to register your views. I am delighted that this is finally being reviewed.”
