PAST Leigh Town Councillor and hairdresser, Anita Forde, has run a free community library for a number of years, outside her London Road shop in Leigh.

In September the library stand was vandalised, but has now been repaired. Ms Forde explained: “In September my ‘Little Free Library’ was vandalised by someone who literally kicked it from its plinth.

“A very kind man collected all the remnants together, but alas it was wrecked.

“I’m a hairdresser and have been for 45 years. One of my customers, Gwyn Bailey , a retired woodworker/ technology teacher who has mended my library for me before now, where it had been vandalised and doors smashed, took the remnants away and miraculously put it back together to resemble the former Library.

“He has always been very generous with his time and effort. Also, local residents donated money towards the repairs. They were so frustrated and angered by the senselessness of the vandalism.

“It is great to have the Library back. My Library is greatly appreciated and I thank everyone for their support.

“I established it for the community without whom it wouldn’t function. It basically runs itself. May the Library continue to serve the Community.

“Thanks again for your continued support.”
