PLANS for fortnightly bin collections are set to go ahead, despite the new administration having said they would overturn the notion, which was originally proposed by the Tory-led council back in October 2023.
The Labour leader Daniel Cowen has admitted that the new administration is unlikely to scrap plans for fortnightly wheelie bin collections, stating that his “hands are tied.”
A Labour-led coalition with Liberal Democrats and Independent councillors assumed control of Southend Council following the recent local elections, but leaders have made it clear that reversing the unpopular new waste contract proposals is highly improbable, given that they are reportedly “too far along the contract negotiations.”
