THE Galeón Andalucía, a replica of a sixteenth to eighteenth century Spanish galleon, will return to Southend Pier from 22 to 28 August.
A spokesperson for Southend Pier said: “Prepare for an exciting journey into the past as you step aboard this impressive vessel and explore its six decks brimming with fascinating exhibits and displays.”
This floating museum is a replica of those Spain used during the Age of Discovery and for trading between Spain, America, and the Philippines.
These ships were part of the famous fleets of the Indies and played an important role in global maritime history.
With a huge open deck space of 320 square meters, visitors can enjoy a self-guided walking tour, offering the freedom to wander the decks, interact with the crew members who live aboard, and explore dozens of interactive exhibits, videos, projections, and historical documents.
Coun Matt Dent, cabinet member for culture, tourism, and business, said: “The return of the Galeón Andalucía is a wonderful addition to our summer events programme.
“It provides another chance for residents and visitors to step aboard a piece of history and learn about the fascinating voyages that shaped our world.
“We are delighted to host such a prestigious vessel at Southend Pier once again.”
