Gold For Nature - SOUTHEND council has been recognised for their investment in wildlife.

SOUTHEND council has been recognised for their investment in wildlife.

Coun Lydia Hyde, Cabinet member for Climate, Environment, and Waste, visited the Belfairs Nature Discovery Centre to receive a  certificate from the Essex Wildlife Trust.

Coun Hyde said: “It was a delight to attend the Belfairs Nature Discovery Centre to receive our certificate.

“I believe it is so important that Southend City Council takes its responsibilities towards nature seriously, and we do whatever we can to preserve our wildlife habitats across the city and minimise our impact on nature.

“Our partnership with Essex Wildlife Trust allows us to incorporate their expertise into our work, and protect these nature spaces for generations to come.”

Coun Hyde added that she wanted to encourage residents to volunteer to open access to nature: “One of my priorities as the cabinet member is to also enhance access to nature for all residents, and have more opportunities for everyone to get involved in volunteering and events to connect with local nature.

“Why not look at the events at the Belfairs Nature Discovery centre.”
