Over £20,000 has been raised for local children’s cancer support charity Gold Geese, at their inaugural Goslings seafront fundraising event this weekend.

Over 100 children aged up to 16 scooted, cycled or walked the course which started from Joscelyn’s Beach by Chalkwell Station.

Gold Geese is a registered charity providing tailored support for families fighting childhood cancer in South East Essex, offering mental health therapy, treats, respite trips, help with hospital transport and food bills, and bereavement support.

Each participant received a goody bag, Gold Geese t-shirt and medal, and train operator c2c sponsored the event, offering free journeys home for children taking part.

Katie Southgate, Gold Geese founder and CEO, said: “This was our first ever seafront fundraising event and we were blown away by everyone’s support and enthusiasm. How incredible to see a sea of kids in Gold Geese yellow t-shirts whizzing along the sea front and having a brilliant time, while raising so much money for local families facing cancer.

“A special thank you to our Gold families who joined us on the day, our volunteers and to c2c for sponsoring the event, as well as our partners Brakes, Saltwater Café, PMS and Co-op. And Kerry Green Photography for the fantastic photos!

“Around 1,900 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it causes a huge upheaval for everyone in the family – emotionally, physically and often financially, and Gold Geese is there every step of the way for local families affected.

“Our slogan is ‘We Fly Together’, because geese are a team and no one is left behind. As we receive no government funding we rely on community donations and events like this to fund our vital work.”
