KEITH Evans carried out his final duty as Chair of Leigh Town Council on May 23, at the Annual Council Meeting, when he chaired the election of the council’s new Chair, Coun Bernard Arscott.
Following Coun Arscott’s election, Mr Evans made a presentation of £4,000 to Gold Geese (https://www.goldgeese.org), the charity he had chosen to support during his time as Chair.
Mr Evans said: Gold Geese, which is a small local charity supporting children with cancer and their families, paying for the practical things where the children are in hospital having Chemotherapy, they’ll pay for someone to go in and do the washing, clean the house and those type of things.
“They are a local, Leigh based charity and it gave me the greatest of pleasure to choose something local rather than some multinational charity and I would just like to say thank you to everybody who has supported me, lots of volunteers who have helped me through the year, in raising that money.”
Mr Evans spoke about the various activities he had been involved in, in raising the donation, but felt that raising awareness of the charity locally was also extremely valuable. He added: “I know that the money will be very welcome, but it’s actually as much about raising the awareness of the charity and I feel that actually, that’s something that we’ve managed to do.”
