DAVID Burton-Sampson has welcomes the announcement of extra funding for GP practices in his constituency, which are a significant step forward in expanding primary care services.

The MP for Southend West and Leigh said: “I am excited to see the positive impact this investment will have on patient care across our communities”.

Four surgeries serving patients in Southend West and Leigh are to receive new funding to improve their buildings and provide more appointments.

The surgeries are in line for a vital cash injection to ensure there is additional space to see more patients and improve patient care.

Leigh Primary Care Centre, Sutton Road Surgery, Dr Malik at Kent Elms Health Centre and the Valkyrie Surgery are to receive up to £70,000 each. The funding is to enable a broader range of services to be delivered in a primary-care settings in the future by creating more treatment areas and maximising surgery space.

The money will come from the £102 million worth of funding for the government’s Plan for Change.

Mr Burton-Sampson said:” I am absolutely delighted at this news.

“Right now, many GPs could be seeing more patients, but they don’t have enough room or the right facilities to accommodate them.

“From creating new consultation and treatment rooms to making better use of existing space, this will help patients access proper healthcare locally and quickly.

“More people will be seen by our doctors and that will improve health outcomes in Southend West and Leigh.

“By increasing the number of consultation, treatment, and examination rooms, our GP practices will be better equipped to meet growing patient demand and reduce waiting times.

“We are investing £26 billion into the NHS and this will help shift care out of hospitals and into the community.”
