ROCHFORD District Council is offering grants of up to £1,000 for small local charitable and voluntary and community groups to apply for.

The Rochford-funded “Voluntary Sector Grants” are open to applications from neighbourhood committees, residents’ associations, social enterprises, and charities.

Applicant groups must be representative of their local community, and be projects that that align outcomes with those local strategic priorities in relation to health and wellbeing criteria.

This is detailed in the Council’s Business Plan and the with the four priorities of the Castle Point & Rochford Health Strategy 2022-2025.

Julie Gooding, independent councillor for Hawkwell West, said: “I’m really pleased we managed to get the Voluntary Sector Grants approved for February this year.

“Keep a lookout as Rochford Council will be offering £1,000 in charity grants, which meet the Health and Wellbeing criteria.

“Last year, we approved £10,000 in total for community use.

In 2023, grants went to Trust Links, which supports mental health with gardening activities,

Trust Links purchased a smartboard, which is being installed in the south wing of its Rochford centre.

Another beneficiary of the grant last year was Bar ‘n’ Bus, a Christian charity that helps young people in South Essex.

A spokesperson from the charity described how helpful the grant had been.

They added: “We’ve appreciated knowing that our local council supports the work we undertake in the district with is residents.”

The application is open until Thursday February 29 2024.
