A SOUTH Essex MP has spoken out in Parliament about plans to build some 350 houses in the Green Belt, contrary to specific policies in the Council’s Local Plan.

Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, made his comments during a special debate he recently secured in Parliament, about proposed Green Belt developments, in his constituency, including as proposed by developer Taylor Wimpey, between Mount Bovers Lane and Gusted Hall Lane, in Hawkwell.

The Hawkwell site, is firmly within the Green Belt of the Upper Roach Valley, where development is prohibited, according to Rochford District Council’s own existing Local Plan.

Commenting on the proposals, Mr Francois said: “Rochford District Council’s Local Plan, against which these proposals must be judged, specifically protects Green Belt sites in the Upper Roach Valley from development.

“There are no ‘very special circumstances’ to justify such development in the Green Belt and the Council should reject these clearly unsustainable proposals, on those grounds alone. I will shortly be meeting with local objectors to this development, to offer them my personal support.”
