SOUTHEND Green Party candidates, members and supporters came together across the city to promote their message: “Make Hope Normal Again” ahead of the local elections on 7 May.
The party says support is growing, with national membership now above 226,000 and local numbers continuing to rise.
Campaigners spent Sunday 19 April speaking with residents across Southend, followed by a meet-and-greet event where people could talk directly with candidates. With less than three weeks to go until polling day, the Greens say more residents are backing their plans for a cleaner, healthier and fairer Southend, including creating green jobs and improving quality of life.
Coun Stuart Allen said, “It’s great to see so much energy behind our candidates.
“With growing support, I’m looking forward to more Green councillors joining us to make a real difference for Southend. Wherever residents live, they have the chance to vote Green on 7 May.”
Candidates Anita Forde (Leigh), Simon Gittus (West Leigh), Kay Mitchell (Chalkwell) and Lauren Ekins (Belfairs) welcomed attendees and said many residents feel let down by the same politics from the same old parties and that it is time for positive change.
They say more Green councillors would bring a practical approach focused on putting residents and nature first.
The party says its local priorities include: Cleaner, greener and healthier neighbourhoods- Better public transport and less congestion – A fairer local economy – Tackling the housing crisis while protecting the green belt – Stronger community services and early support.
They say this can be achieved with a council that is honest, competent and focused on working alongside residents.
