THE Green Party has won a second historic win in Leigh following the local elections.
Stuart Allen made a resounding win in Leigh ward, taking 1,725 votes compared to 342 Tory votes.
Second to Mr Allen were the Lib Dems, with 637 votes.
This follows last tear’s historic win for the ward, when Richard Longstaff was the first person to win a seat on Southend Council for the party.
Now, Leigh resident Coun Allen joins Coun Longstaff on Southend City Council.
Coun Allen said: “I’m so happy to announce that I’ve been elected as Councillor for Leigh Ward.
“After so much work over the last year, it’s an absolute honour to be your representative.
“I promise that I’ll continue to work just as hard – partnering with our fantastic Coun Longstaff make Leigh fairer and greener.
“I want to thank every single of the 1,725 people who voted for me yesterday, and those that may have voted for another party this time round.
“It was great to see turnout had increased to 40.9% this year, meaning we are connecting with more and more with residents. I’m here to serve, so do please get in touch as and when you need any support.
“I also want to thank the amazing Green team who have really worked their butts off to get this fantastic result.
