Grosvenor Hotel For Sale - A FORMER hotel in Westcliff has been put up for sale for more than £1million.

A FORMER hotel in Westcliff has been put up for sale for more than £1million.

The Grosvenor Hotel, on Grosvenor Road, Westcliff, has lain empty for five years, since the former owner closed the business in 2019.

The 17-bed hotel has been described as needing “internal modernisation” but as a site that has “opportunity” and the potential to be turned into private housing by Estate Agent Dedman Gray.

They state: “A 17-bedroom hotel which is arranged over two semi-detached, 3 storey properties.

“The hotel stopped trading in 2019 and is in need of internal modernisation. We feel the opportunity may be suited for conversion into private housing, subject to planning, and will be offered with full vacant possession.”

The building, which is close to Marine Parade seafront, comes with full vacant possession forecourt parking.

There is a rear garden for outside space, and lift access provided along with kitchen facilities, if the new owner wished to maintain it as a hotel.

Councillors have now backed suggestions that the three-floor building could be transformed into much-needed housing.

James Courtenay, councillor responsible for the Chalkwell ward, reportedly said: “I think that the site has got potential for housing as obviously if the hotel need is not there, then I don’t have an objection to that.”

He expressed concern that the building would be made into an HMO (house of multiple occupation).

He said: “If it turned into housing or flats, it could work, especially with the room for parking on site.

“There are opportunities for different avenues. It is a good opportunity for someone.

“I want it to be actively in used so it isn’t an eyesore. So, I will be supportive of the building being put back into some use.

“But, I am just concern if it were to be turned in HMO, given other HMOs present in area. There are not enough facilities to cope with that.”
