A MAN has been arrested after a vehicle was stopped and found to contain 18 wraps of suspected Class A drugs.

Officers from the Operational Support Group got behind the Ford Focus on the A130 and continued to follow it until it was stopped on the A127 at Rayleigh Weir shortly after 10.15pm on Saturday 24 May.

Once stopped, the officers had the power to search the Focus. During that search they found 18 wraps of suspected Class A drugs hidden in a sock within the steering block.

A large amount of cash and a mobile phone was also seized, which will form part of the investigation.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He remains in custody.

Chief Inspector Steve Scott-Haynes, of our operational policing command, said: “Those involved in the supply of Class A drugs prey on people who are amongst the most vulnerable in our neighbourhoods – and we won’t tolerate it.

“Whether you’re on foot, on public transport or travelling in a vehicle, you’ll never know when the police are about to catch up with you.

“The message is always the same, if you think you can sell drugs in Essex, you can’t – and you’ll be arrested.”
