HOCKLEY residents fear their road is being targeted, after a spate of car thefts have seen “more than £200,000 worth of vehicles” stolen in two weeks.
Residents of Church Road, Hockley, have raised the alarm after a Mercedes, a Range Rover, a Ford Ranger and a BMW were stolen for the same street.
Rochford Councillor Danielle Belton, who lives in Rayleigh, says she was targeted by thieves in early February when they broke into her home and stole her car keys, with the intention of stealing her Range Rover.
Coun Belton said: “The keys were far enough away from the thieves so they couldn’t use their normal devices, so they broke in, they weren’t interested in anything else it was unnerving.
“Police are taking our complaints seriously; I support any proposals to act and asked the council to investigate the CCTV at critical junctions and for community meeting with police to see how we can raise awareness and see how the council can support preventing this crime.”
