HOCKLEY Parish Council has officially announced the date for the highly anticipated Christmas lights switch-on event. This annual celebration is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, starting at 3 pm.
As in previous years, the village will come alive with festive spirit, welcoming thousands of visitors to explore pop-up stalls, savour delectable burgers, and enjoy live music performances on the pop-up stage.
The highlight of the evening will be the illumination of the Christmas lights at 6 pm, creating a radiant spectacle in the night sky for all to admire.
In addition, the council has shared that Hurleys Farm, located on Woodham Road in Battlesbridge, will generously provide the 2023 Southend Road Christmas tree.
This magnificent tree traditionally graces the area near the Shuhag Tandoori Restaurant.
Adrian Eves, Hockley ward Rochford Residents Group councillor, said: “The Hockley Christmas lights switch-on is always a much-loved event for the people of the village, and it’s great it’s happening again this year.
“One of the things Hockley has not got is a place where it can hold events where people can showcase their talents.
“This event allows them to pop-up a stall or perform on the stage for everyone to see, which is fantastic.
“I’m very glad Hockley residents and beyond will be able to come down on November 25 to see the village lights be turned on, and I’m very much looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile, Southend BID has confirmed that the city’s Christmas lights switch-on will occur a week earlier, on November 18, and will feature a full day of festivities starting at noon on Southend High Street and culminating in a in a spectacular finale with seafront fireworks displays.
