Hospices’ Counselling Service

A LOCAL hospice charity has launched a new counselling service offering expert bereavement support to people living in Essex.

Lightwell Counselling, based in Southend, is provided by Havens Hospices, a charity which provides specialist care and support for people of all ages across Essex who are living with incurable conditions.

The paid-for service is a new enterprise for the charity to help raise vital funds, so it can continue providing its free hospice care within the local community. Over 70% of the charity’s income comes from donations, shop purchases, and initiatives like Lightwell Counselling.

The counselling sessions will be delivered by a team of fully qualified and experienced professionals in person, online, or via the phone. Available to anyone, it will be separate from the existing care and support provided to those who benefit from Havens Hospices’ free care.

Sherry Eaglestone, Head of Wellbeing and Community Engagement at Havens Hospices, said: “We understand that grief is a deeply personal journey.

“Our counselling services reflect the care and support given in our hospices, providing a compassionate, safe and confidential environment. We are incredibly proud of the services we offer and are delighted to be able to expand on the support we can provide within the local community.”

The charity hopes that the initiative will not only support more people who are grieving in the local community, but also raise more awareness of the ongoing need to fund the specialist end of life care that hospices provide.

Lightwell Counselling is open to anyone aged 18 or over living in Essex and struggling to cope with the loss of a loved one.
