MP David Burton-Sampson has called the government’s announcement of hospital funding: “More good news for patients.”

The Labour administration has announced vital maintenance for hospitals, with patients in Southend West and Leigh set to benefit from more than £6 million awarded to the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, said: “I am delighted that we are benefiting from this funding.

“It is vitally important and another step in this Government’s mission to fix the dire state of public services we inherited from the Tories.

“Much needed works will help patients benefit from better services and facilities.

“It will help make our health estate fit for the future with vital maintenance, preventing cancelled appointments and operations. Lots done, and lots more to do.”

A spokesperson added: “The hospital funding package was confirmed in last year’s Autumn Budget, when an extra £26billion was announced for the NHS to deliver a properly funded and realistic hospital building programme. Historic capital underinvestment led to a crumbling NHS estate in unacceptably poor condition; problems like as leaky pipes, poor ventilation and electrical issues can lead to vital health care being delayed.”
