Iconic Pub Renovation - PLANS have been submitted to Rochford District Council to renovate an iconic pub building in Rayleigh.

PLANS have been submitted to Rochford District Council to renovate an iconic pub building in Rayleigh.

The Rayleigh Lodge, in The Chase, is a Grade II Listed Tudor building with links to the Boleyn family, being reputedly a lodge built by Henry VIII for his second wife.

Mitchells and Butlers, the landlords of the pub and restaurant, have submitted fresh plans to the council for refurbishment.

The proposed changes include a modernised bar, replacement of loose furniture, reconfiguration of toilets, and redecoration of several areas.

The proposal also outlines upgrades to lighting, windows, and rendered surfaces, along with reconfiguration of cabinets and shelves.

The landlords emphasise that these renovations aim to improve the customer experience without compromising the heritage significance of the building.

Ian Ward, Conservative councillor responsible for the Lodge ward, reportedly lent his support to a sympathetic restoration.

He said: “maintaining and restoring the historical connection of the building as a tourist attraction as well as a fine inn would mutually benefit both Rayleigh and Michell and Butlers economically as well.”

The proposals will undergo review by Rochford District Council.
