THE MP for Southend West held a summit with the Southend Police District Commander to discuss concerns about knife crime and anti-social behaviour in the city.

Anna Firth MP met with District Commander Khan at Southend Police Station to discuss the recently introduced measures to crack-down on the use of nitrous oxide, as well as Ms Firth’s campaign to end the sale of “zombie knives.”

She said: “It was also a good opportunity to talk about where the law needs to be stricter, especially around knife crime.

“The very sad irony is that when we left the police station there was a distressed mother using the police phone to report that her son had just been beaten up by a group of youths who were apparently carrying knives.

“We simply can’t allow this to go on.”

The pair also discussed extending the length of time dispersal orders are in place, and the extension of that the force’s Operation Union into this summer.

Ms Firth added: “This will help everyone across Southend and Leigh feel safer.”
