SOUTHEND Labour has officially launched its campaign for the local council elections on May 2.

On the morning of, Labour councillors, candidates and activists gathered at an event on Saturday April 13 at The Ironworks to kick off its bid to win control of Southend Council.

The 17 Labour candidates across the city were introduced, and speeches given by Coun Daniel Cowan, leader of the Labour Group, and Bayo Alaba, parliamentary candidate for Southend East & Rochford.

Coun Daniel Cowan said: “It was fantastic to see so many people turn out for our campaign launch today.

“We have a five point plan to build a city we can be proud of and our members are enthusiastic about sharing our message with the people of Southend.

“We will introduce a free bulky waste collection service, fix more potholes and pavements, tackle antisocial behaviour, attract more visitors to Southend, and protect libraries and family centres.

“The Conservatives have let Southend down, Labour will build a city we can be proud of.”
