The Mayor of Southend reopened the Leigh Co-op on the London Road.
Coun Stephen Habermel, officially cut the ribbon on August 31.
The store had undergone an extensive refurb, swapping the bright green branding for a more modern grey and blue.
Coun Habermel, who was joined by the president of the Chelmsford Star Co-op Society, Tony Price, said: “At the heart of being a Co-op is a commitment to being more than just a shop.
“For every pound spend in the shop, 31p is returned to the community in some way, either through wages local suppliers, or charity work.”
