Leigh Regatta 2024

A DATE has been set for the eagerly-anticipated return of the Leigh Regatta.

Marcus Dean, group events manager for the 3rd Chalkwell Bay Sea Scout Group, has invited sea lovers and adventure enthusiasts to mark their calendars for the exciting weekend of September 7 and 8.

Promising sailing races and the quintessential seaside ambiance, the weekend aims to recapture the spirit of the yester year’s Regattas, said to have originated in 1880.

Following cancellations caused by the pandemic and the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the revival of this event after four years signifies a return to cherished traditions.

Mr Dean said: “We hope to see the return of the heritage activities including, The Bow Sprit, Welly Hoying, The Sedan Chair Race, Scout Pentathlon, Tug O’War, Football on the mud and much more.

“In essence, The Old Leigh Regatta is a weekend for the community to come together and celebrate our relationship with the water, live music, racing, taster sessions, activities and of course food and drink will all feature.”
