SIR, it was good to read the calm and proportionate account of the Leigh Town Council meeting (Expense claims) in Leigh on Sea News.

The fact is, it is embarrassing trying to carry out almost any task and having to ask for more than the current £1.63 per week.

Getting on public transport to come to Leigh is £5.70 (Return) on each and every occasion, if you are not cash wealthy or even moderately “in cash”, how do you manage with £85 per year?

The essence of what is needed is reform of the Town Council, so that all 16 councillors who serve can do exactly that and not trudge through shocking bureaucratic hoops to actually achieve almost nothing.

The only winners have been the trolls and those who want the current structure to stay in place with little or no accountability or transparency.
