Chalkwell Lifeguards

Members of Chalkwell Lifeguards in training for the Southend Triathlon.

Volunteer Lifeguards and Southend Council Beach Welfare Officers are already training hard for this Years Southend Triathlon on the July 9, at Shoebury West Beach.

Their training involves a punishing schedule of twice weekly gym work-out sessions and pool swims and 5k runs in The Chalkwell Park Run. Last Saturday morning was bright and very cold but Yvonne Lewis, former Southend Beauty Queen Debra- Sales-Tiffin, Edward Hayden, Val Mayes, Roger Saward and Dines Galtry all completed the Park Run and then took part in a 5k training cycle ride from Chalkwell to The Rosyln Hotel and back on Sunday and then a brave open water swim out to The Crowstone monument at Chalkwell three times and back.

The Clubs Volunteers are all taking part in The Southend Triathlon in an attempt to raise much needed funds for Chalkwell Lifeguards Club to be able to update the Clubs rescue equipment.

Club Volunteer Yvonne Lewis said ” We are starting training very early to make sure that we are Super Fit by the time we get to the Triathlon event on July 9, its a very exciting Challenge and we are already feeling so much fitter. ”
