LEIGH Town Council has a range of events taking place, to help residents celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

Taking place on Saturday May 6th, the historic day will see millions of people tune in live across the globe for the ceremony, commencing at 11am.

Residents all over Leigh and Southend are holding celebration street parties across the bank holiday, with a list of those taking place available on Leigh Town Council’s website.

A spokesperson for Leigh Town Council said: “The Coronation of King Charles III falls right as local elections take place at Leigh Town Council and so it was not possible to celebrate in the same way as the Council organised for the Queen’s Jubilee last year, when they held their big event at Bonchurch Park.

“However, not  wishing residents to miss out, especially if they have no street party to attend, they have organised several events at Leigh Community Centre.”

For senior citizens Leigh Town Council will be hosting a unique coronation Over 60’s Social Club event.

Attendees can enjoy Afternoon Tea served by Cup of Leigh and a musical entertainment from The Ray Miso Trio, on Wednesday May 3 from 12 noon to 2 pm at Leigh Community Centre.

A £2 donation to Gold Geese will secure a place.

The council are also hosing some enjoyable coronation activities for children, with special coronation parties with children’s entertainer Joe Banana.

The first of these, for pre-school children will take place on Friday, May 5 at Leigh Community Centre at 1.45 pm.

The second will follow on the same day from 4.15 pm, for children aged three and over, all of whom will receive with a goody bag and Coronation pin badge.

All money raised through the £1.50 entry plus reservation fee will go to Gold Geese, a children’s cancer charity.

The Spokesperson added: “Within 12 hours of announcing the event, all 150 places had been booked and so the Town Council added a further ‘pre-school’ party.

“Leigh Town Council staff will be decorating the Leigh Community Centre (which the Council run) for the week leading up to the Coronation, so even if you can’t book a space at the organised events, please do drop in for a cuppa at Cup of Leigh, the café within the Community Centre, as there will be daily Coronation specials.”

Meanwhile, Eastwood Community Centre are hosting a community coronation tea on Monday, May 8 from 3 to 6pm, with full entertainment and afternoon tea costs £7.50.

A Coronation Tea Dance will be held at The Haven Community Hub in Hamlet Court Road on Thursday, May 4 from 2 to 4 pm.

In Southend, The Southend Band will be accompanied by a Southend Community Chorus performing uplifting music to celebrate the coronation on Saturday, May 6 from 3 to 4.30 pm.

Southend Museums are also hosting a Cream Tea in the beautiful historic location of Prittlewell Priory to celebrate the Coronation, on Sunday May 7, with tickets priced at £10.
