Longer Library Hours Call - A SOUTH Essex MP has backed a campaign to extend the opening hours at a local library, following a recent visit.

A SOUTH Essex MP has backed a campaign to extend the opening hours at a local library, following a recent visit.

Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, visited Hullbridge Library in his constituency, where local residents and Councillors are campaigning to extend the opening hours.

Mr Francois met with library staff, local residents and members of Hullbridge Parish Council, the latter of which subsequently passed a resolution, calling for the library hours to be extended from just a few mornings each week.

Following his visit, Mr Francois has now added his support to the campaign, including writing to Essex Coun Mark Durham, the Cabinet Member for Arts and Heritage, to support the cause.

Speaking about the campaign, Mr Francois said: “Hullbridge Library is very popular, not just as an educational facility but as a meeting point for the village community.

“I very much hope it will be possible to extend its opening course, for even more Hullbridge residents to benefit.”
