A TALK exploring the history of Southend’s tramways will take place in Westcliff next month.
Historian Simon Deacon will present The Trams of Southend on June 6, covering the town’s historic tram network, including schemes that were proposed but never built.
The event is part of talks run by The South East branch of the Essex Society for Family History.
It will examine how the tramways were established, the experiences of passengers and staff, and the financial decisions behind the system, ending with what organisers describe as “a twist”.
The meeting will be held at Avenue Baptist Church Hall, Milton Road, Westcliff. Doors open at 1.30pm for research and socialising, with the talk beginning at 2.30pm.
Help desks for family history and DNA queries will also be available.
Visitors are welcome, with a £3 donation requested.
