May Elections - LOCAL Government elections will take place on May 2, to elect councillors to Southend City Council.

LOCAL Government elections will take place on May 2, to elect councillors to Southend City Council.

The local election gives voters the opportunity to vote for a councillor for the ward they live in.

There are 51 councillors representing 17 wards in Southend and one councillor will be voted in to represent each ward.

On polling day, voters will need to take one form of Photo ID to the polling station.

This is because The Elections Act (2022) has introduced a number of changes to voting.

If you do not bring photo ID to the polling station you will not be able to vote, and no copies will be accepted.

Expired documents, however, are permitted, as long as the photo is still a good likeness.

If you do not have one of the forms of photo ID you will be able to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate.

This will be an A4 paper document displaying your name, photograph, date of issue, issuing local authority, a unique reference number and a recommended renewal date.
