DAVID Burton-Sampson has marked his one hundredth spoken contribution in Parliament.

Tallied up by Hansard, the official report of all debates and proceedings undertaken in the Houses of Parliament and say Mr Burton-Sampson, Member of Parliament for Southend West and Leigh, has already surpassed this number to reach 102 spoken contributions by mid October 2026.

Mr Burton-Sampson’s very first contribution was given on 26 July 2024 during a debate on the Infected Blood Inquiry, followed by his maiden speech four days later on 30 July. Since then, the MP has spoken on a wide variety of issues that he says are close to his own heart and that mean a lot to his constituents.

“It’s the honour of my life to be the MP for Southend West and Leigh and to be able to represent our community in Parliament,” Mr Burton-Sampson said, remarking on the milestone. “It just goes to show how many different things get debated in Parliament when you consider which topics I’ve covered in the two and a bit years I’ve been here.”

Alongside the Infected Blood Inquiry, Burton-Sampson has spoken on many other topics including Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), male mental health and suicide, violence against women and girls (VAWG), LGBTQ+ rights, primary school breakfast clubs, crime and policing, and of course Southend United Football Club.

“There’s still so much more to do and raise, but I’m really proud that I’ve been able to raise the issues that matter so much to people here in Southend West and Leigh, and of course matter a lot to me too. Here’s to the next one hundred, and the hundreds after that!”
