MP Supports PM

MP David Burton-Sampson has expressed his support for Andy Burnham, the new Prime Minister.
The MP for Southend West and Leigh also paid tribute to Sir Keir Starmer following his term in office.
Mr Burton-Sampson said: “I would like to thank Sir Keir Starmer for all he has done as Prime Minister to stabilise the country’s finances, lift children out of poverty and restore our international reputation.
“Under Sir Keir Starmer we have also helped families with the cost of living, by freezing train fares, prescription charges and VAT on fuel, as well as introducing free breakfast clubs, which could save a family £450 a year.
“I am sure that Andy Burnham will continue the good work bringing change, growth and hope to communities like Southend West and Leigh.
“I welcome his first instruction – to end rough sleeping in our country.
“In common with many seaside towns and cities, I know from my own postbag that Southend has struggled with the issue of people without a roof over their head, despite great work by the council and local homelessness charities.
“Andy Burnham is absolutely right to say no one area by itself can solve the problem, so I very much welcome the national initiative and I am really looking forward to working with the new Prime Minister in the future.”
