Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mr Francois, took time over the bank holiday weekend to take part in an abseil down the side of a main teaching block, which is due to be demolished, as part of a complete rebuild of the school, following problems identified during the RAAC crisis, several years ago.
The School charged participants (who included teachers and both current and past pupils) £50 to undertake this exciting challenge, in order to raise funds to develop their memorial garden, which was established a while ago, to commemorate both past teachers and pupils from the school.
Speaking about the event, Mr Francois said: “As someone who has strongly supported the plans for the rebuild of Fitz – which should hopefully commence later this year or early next – I wanted to partake in this charity challenge, before the old teaching block we descended from is demolished.
“It was a great view across Rayleigh from up top, especially as we were all participating in a very worthwhile cause.
“I wish the school all the best with this key project.”
