MP’s New Role - DAVID Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, has taken up his new role at the health department in the House of Commons.

DAVID Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, has taken up his new role at the health department in the House of Commons.
Parliament returned from its half term break to the debate on the government’s Health Bill.
The NHS Modernisation Bill will abolish NHS England and bring its functions back into the Department of Health and Social Care.
Mr Burton-Sampson said: “The Bill does do two key things. It improves patient safety and experience through a new Single Patient Record, which enables joined-up care and the Bill abolishes NHS England to put more resources into frontline services, which is a good thing.”
As a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Health Department, the MP will support Health Ministers in their work, including the Secretary of State, James Murray.
Mr Burton-Sampson will act as a link between ministers and backbench MPs and contribute to wider departmental work.
He said: “When NHS England is gone Ministers will have direct operational influence over the system. These are necessary steps to ensure the NHS is there for patients when they need it and that it’s a better place to work for staff.
“In the process, we’ll deliver better money for taxpayers.”
