Mark Francois, issued his verdict on the proposals, after viewing a public exhibition of the plans, at Rawreth Village Hall.

The proposals, from developer Bloor Homes, envisage building 1,300 houses at the Dollyman’s Farm site, between Rayleigh and Wickford – an idea Mr Francois campaigned strongly against, during last year’s General Election.

Commenting on the intended development, on predominantly Green Belt land, Mr Francois said: “As I made plain during the General Election, massive housebuilding like this at Dolloyman’s Farm, would represent totally unacceptable ‘urban sprawl’ in the vital Green Belt between Rayleigh and Wickford.

“Having now seen the detailed plans, they are even worse than I feared, with hardly any compensating infrastructure, especially regarding our already highly congested local road network. I now intend to fight these unsustainable proposals, on behalf of my constituents, both locally and in Parliament.”
