MPs Tip Visit

DAVID Burton-Sampson praised the work being done to recycle waste on a visit to Leigh Tip.
He was invited by waste management company, SUEZ, to see behind the scenes at the Leigh Marshes Household Waste Recycling plant, near Two Tree Island.
The site was also open to the public, as part of its Heritage Open day.
The MP for Southend West & Leigh, Mr Burton-Sampson, said:” I’m amazed by what I’ve seen here. There is far more waste that can be used and recycled than you would imagine.
“It was a fascinating look at what actually happens to all our rubbish. There was almost nothing that couldn’t be recycled.
“I was surprised to learn that ceramics can be ground down to help surface our roads, including old toilets!
“And did you know that if you recycle only six tea bags, it can generate enough electricity to boil a kettle?
“It was a good reminder of just how much can reused, including the great plant pots that Suez have created a lovely garden with.
“I would highly recommend a visit.”
