SOUTHEND’S two new MPs held an introductory meeting with the NHS leadership team at Southend University Hospital, and were afterwards given a tour of the building.
David Burton-Sampson (Southend West and Leigh) and Bayo Alaba (Southend East and Rochford) met the senior leadership team, including Chief Executive Matthew Hopkins.
They discussed plans for the buildings and how MPs can work in partnership with the organisation. They were afterwards shown around the hospital, including a walkthrough of the new Stambridge Ward and of the LINAC bunker.
Mr Burton-Sampson said: “Getting NHS wait times down is a big priority for this government.
“So it was really good to get a sense of the challenges and pressures at play, and of how we as MPs can offer support and work proactively.”
Mr Alaba added: “Southend is a city that’s going places, and has a really bright future.
“Accessible, high quality local healthcare is the foundation upon which this is built. It was fantastic to meet the top team and discuss their plans moving forward.”
