ROCHFORD District Council (RDC) is installing new lighting at a popular park, in a bid to clamp down on anti-social behaviour.
Sweyne Park Open Space in Rayleigh will benefit from a £45,000 investment, with seven new LED lights, lighting up the amenity over the summer.
The works could take around a month to complete, with signs being put up by Rochford Council to warn people of some route disruption.
A spokesman for RDC said: “It is costing £45,000. Seven new LED lights will be installed between Victoria Avenue and Priory Chase.
“Some disruption is expected during the four-week project. Funded through Rochford Council’s community safety fund, this is a joint initiative between Rochford Council and Rayleigh Town Council.
“The scheme reflects the shared commitment to creating safer, more accessible public spaces for residents and visitors.”
Sweyne Park Open Space is approximately 57 acres in size, and was originally war time agricultural land.
It was transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to Rochford District Council in the late 1980s.
In 1992, the area was handed over to the Councils Parks and Open Spaces Officer.
According to the RDC website, the officer has “developed the park by planting trees, shrubs, whips and wild flowers.”
“The majority of plants are fruiting varieties that encourage and support wildlife in the park.”
