LEIGH Town Council is expected to appoint a new permanent Town Clerk, ending a difficult year without one.
The new appointment follows the very controversial suspension of the previous Town Clerk, Helen Symmons PSLCC, at the end of July in 2023. Ms Symmons was subsequently sacked.
An item on the agenda of the Council’s July 17 Staffing Committee meeting related to the appointment of a new permanent Town Clerk. It is understood that a candidate has been selected with their appointment expected to be ratified at the next Full Council Meeting on Tuesday July 23.
The name of the new Town Clerk cannot be revealed until the appointment is officially made, but it is understood that an announcement is imminent.
Coun Bernard Arscott, Chair of the council has confirmed that the new Town Clerk is expected to be appointed at the next Full Council meeting.
Coun Arscott said: “I can officially confirm that yes the appointment of a new Town Clerk was on the agender last night and obviously that’s now subject to ratification by the full council, next Tuesday.
“I would say, at this stage, I hope this is a simple formality that the recommendation of the Staffing Committee will be rubber stamped.”
