Cyclist hit by police

POLICE officers have left a person in hospital with serious injuries after they collided with a cyclist near Southend Hospital.

Officers were responding to a call when they became involved in the crash between a bicycle and a police car on Prittlewell Chase on May 22.

The cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash, and are now appealing for witnesses to the collision. They are also urging anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Rayleigh betting shop robbery

A KNIFEMAN stole hundreds of pounds in cash from a betting and adult gaming shop in Rayleigh.

A man entered Star Amusements in Eastwood Road at around 8.40pm on Sunday, April 2 armed with a knife and threatened a member of staff.

He demanded money and made off with a three-figure sum of cash from the till.

The man has been described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of stocky build and wearing a grey tracksuit with a scarf wrapped around his head.

Man stabbed on Leigh Road

A MAN was stabbed in Leigh in the early hours of May 20, after reportedly defending a woman from “inappropriate” behaviour.

Essex Police and emergency services were called to an area near The Vine bar on Leigh Road, after receiving reports a man had been assaulted.

The victim, a man in his 20s, sustained stab wounds after being attacked around 30 metres away from the bar, after confronting three men who were “being inappropriate to women”.

The doorman of the venue said he witnessed the incident, and raised the alarm.

Essex Police confirmed they are investigating the assault, and officers have urged anyone with information or footage to come forward.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are investigating an assault in Leigh-on-Sea.

“It was reported a man in his 20s was assaulted after confronting three men who were being inappropriate to women outside The Vine in Leigh Road at around 1.10am on Saturday [May 20th].

“He sustained stab wounds and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

“Our inquiries are ongoing.”

The police spokesman added: “If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

“Please quote the crime reference number 42/90241/23.”

Man dies in road crash

A MAN has died in a road collision in Rochford.

Police were called at 9.30am on Wednesday, May 24 following reports of a single vehicle collision in Sutton Road involving a grey Citroen.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, a man sadly died.

The road was closed whilst emergency services attended the scene, and reopened just before 12noon.

Police are now making a call out for information from anyone who witnessed the incident.

Driving ban

A TEENAGER from Leigh has been banned for driving without insurance.

Louie Ash, 18, of Suffolk Avenue, was driving a BMW in Basildon East Mayne with no insurance for the use of the vehicles, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.

The offence was proved in his absence and the teenager has been fined £600.

He must also pay a service charge to fund victim services of £264 And costs of £90.

He has also been banned from driving for six months.
