Appeal

AN appeal has been lodged against Southend Council’s decision to refuse permission for a development in Leigh.

Applicants applied to install a first-floor balcony and alter elevations at 12 Cliff Parade. The amended proposal was refused again by the planning inspectorate.

Southend Council will get the final say on the applicant’s appeal.

Westcliff shoplifter ban

A MAN has been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after a crime spree that saw him shoplift from businesses in Westcliff and Southend.

Joe Linnen, 28, of no fixed address, must now not enter the CO-OP in Hamlet Court Road, or Tesco, HMV and Marks and Spencer in Southend High Street.

The order also includes Sainsbury on London Road.

Linnen appeared at Southend Magistrates Court on May 17 where he was sentenced and issued with the two-year CBO after being charged with multiple theft from a shop offences.

The order will run until 16, May 2025.

The investigation was managed by Essex Police’s Business Crime Team, who support businesses including independent shops and retail chains.

Appeal

AN appeal has been lodged against Southend Council’s decision to refuse permission for a development in Leigh.

Applicants applied with a part-retrospective application to erect a single storey rear extension, and a single storey front/side extension with altered elevations at 133 Blenheim Chase, which was refused because of the nature of the proposed glazing.

Planning officers said the glazing to the front elevation would “represent a visually harmful and poorly designed addition to the dwelling which would be detrimental to the character and appearance of the host property, the street scene and the area more widely.”

Southend Council will get the final say on the applicant’s appeal.

RAYLEIGH Town Museum has made a call out for residents’ old papers, such as deeds, diaries, maps and plans, to help them in their recording of the town’s history.

Water repairs

A LEIGH road was closed whilst emergency water repairs were conducted.

Southend Council put in place a Temporary Prohibition of Traffic for Leigham Court Drive on May 3 prohibiting all vehicles from entering and exiting the road at its junction with London Road, whilst the works were carried out.

Westcliff urination fine

A MAN who urinated in public has been fined £200.

Tony Bull of Westcliff was caught urinating in Southend on September 21, in an area coverd by a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).

The PSPO prohibits such behaviour within a delimited space.

The offense was proved in his absence on April 19.

Bull, of Palmerston Road, has also been ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £80, and costs of £300.
